Junior LEGO League at the Radisson Hotel

We have spent many weeks working hard on our project.Yesterday we finally got to display our project at the Radisson Hotel. We displayed our robotics along with many other schools from all over Galway. We had a fantastic evening of show and tell, dancing, cheerleading and entertainment.

Mixing and dissolving

We tested different substances to see if they would dissolve in water or not.We tested salt, sugar, sand, seeds etc.

Show and Tell

We brought in our favourite object to show the class. We told the class why we liked it and what it meant to us.
The class brought in teddies, a judo outfit, a pantomime outfit, an old part of a train, a chain and many more.....

Historical Artefacts!

Each group was given a really old object.
We had to decide what it is made of, who would have used it, where it was made, what shape it was and if it could talk what it would say!
Finally we had to guess what it was.We had some very interesting guesses!
At the end of the lesson teacher told us about each object:
an old hot water bottle,
a milk can,
an old brass blowtorch
and an inkwell!

Our Communion

Contempo String Quartet

We visited the Contempo String Quartet in the Education Centre. We listened to excerpts of classical music and looked out for varying pitch, rhythm and dynamics. Rosa was allowed to play the violin!!

Easter pots

We created pots with clay, painted them all different colours and filled them with hay and yummy eggs!

Amazing 3-d shapes

We constructed pyramids, cubes, cuboids and many other shapes using matchsticks and marla.

SOAK IT UP

We tested various materials in water to see if they were absorbent or waterproof.
We tested cotton wool, cardboard, plastic, tin foil, kitchen roll, newspaper and a sponge.

Planting

We planted nastertians and runner beans.

More Robotics

We followed the tutorials and made many interesting things. It was challenging but we loved it.
We made two twirling birds that rotate, a crocodile who's mouth opens and closes and a boat which rocks back and forth!

A Visitor

Tony Reidy is a secondary school teacher. His class do the First Lego League every year.Tony showed us how to program his LEGO robot. We found out that it is very similar to our Junior LEGO league!

Robotics

We are getting very good at following the instructions, assembling the lego and programming it on the computer.
